Bespoken is a magazine of Scabal that celebrates a tailor-made lifestyle. Per year two editions are printed in English and can be read on iPad with extra video content in the iPad app. On the website you can flip thru the magazine and zoom in.

For Bespoken's 5th anniversary or 10th edition, it was not only translated in German, French, Spanish, Italian and Japanese but also in Arabic. Moreover, a special edition was printed in Korean, Chinese and Russian !

Stromae in Scabal for Victoires de la Musique

Paul Van Haver was born in 1985 and is known as Stromae. He already sold over 1,5 million copies of his hit "Alors on Dance".

This young dandy was dressed in Scabal for the 27th "Victoires de la Musique" organized by France2 television. He brought an electronic version of a rock song of enfant terrible Arno.

He chose the grey flannel fabric 702816 of the bunch "Flannel and Saxony" bunch for maximum contrast with the short pants.

Investing in luxury

We live in a time when most people no longer want to spend their money on frivolous things. What better way to invest in safe securities, in things that we like and above all things that resist time and societal trends.

It's in this light that Scabal held an evening cocktail 'Investment in Luxury' in Antwerp. Experts in the luxury field, such as Geretti (Antwerp Jewelry Manufacturer), Beerens Classics Divisions (Oldtimers), Deutsche Bank (Private Banking) and Albert (seller of fabrics and bespoke Scabal suit), were present.

The speech was given to explain why it is useful to invest in luxury, and in which product/service particularly.

It was a pleasant evening with a special atmosphere in a mythical place, the showroom of Beerens Classic Divison. Indeed, those invited seated in the middle of collector cars, jewelry and fabrics. They were able to see for themselves in what they could invest.

We could learn from this evening that investment in luxury is one of the most best considerations that a person can do in these times of financial uncertainty.

Not many artists' lives have been so intriguing as the life of Claude François.

Born in Egypt in 1939, he climbed to the top as a singer in the sixties and seventies. He came to a tragic sudden death in 1978 in Paris, electrocuted in his bath.

Over 100 books have appeared on his life. He has registered over 400 tracks, of which the last and famous "Alexandrie, Alexandra".

Clo Clo is the recent biography of this legend. Jérémie Renier is the leading actor in this authentic and touching portrait and gets perfect reviews of many magazines for his actor's performance.

Scabal is honoured to deliver fabrics for this movie. The suits have been created by Mimi Lempicka and produced by the atelier "Bas & Hauts" in Paris.

Sir Elton John chooses a fine quality : New Deluxe

In his five decades in the music business, Sir Elton John has scored major successes with his albums, stage and film soundtracks, film roles and live performances. John lives in six places: London, Berkshire, Nice, Venice, the Hollywood Hills and Atlanta, Georgia in the US.

Scabal at a historical location : Heeren van Zuilen

At the east of Rotterdam and Dordrecht in the Netherlands lies Gorinchem. Not bigger than 22 km2 but with a lot of historical buildings and with lots of water. The city is mentioned in a document of 1224 but it's known that fishermen and farmers created a settlement already around 1000AD.

Scabal's customer "Heeren van Zuilen" is located in different historical sites of the city. On 1500m2 one can find ladies and men's wear, both formal and casual.

In a 14th century church Scabal is presented as a the "personal made" brand for suits. Using the latest Scabal tailor trunk (top pic), both bunches and made-to-measure options are displayed to it's best.

On regular occasions Heeren van Zuilen organises Made-To-Measure weekends in collaboration with Scabal. This event provides extra services and presentations on how to get your best custom made suit.

Three Michelin stars

Scabal’s perfectionism is what we have in common with Peter and Lieve Goossens, owners of Hof van Cleve.

This three Michelin star restaurant in Belgium opened in 1987. From 2007 on, they can be proud of excellent quotes in the “Top 50 restaurants of the world”, currently on position 15 and Gault Millau gave them a score of 19,5 / 20.

Similar to them, Scabal likes to combine a rich tradition with brand new innovations like our fabrics with diamond powder and gold thread.

The Scabal tailors created the outfits for the sommelier, the maître, the restaurant manager and the waiters: a tailored suit in a blue “Caravelle” fabric 702852, a combination of wool and microfiber. The lapel buttonhole and last buttonhole of the sleeve is in a contrasting grey colour, with a blue lining with grey piping, a charcoal-coloured tie and the embroidered name of the employee and that of Hof van Cleve complete this exclusive suit.

Matsuzaki celebrates 100th anniversary

Matsuzaki was founded in September 1912 in Japan and thus will celebrate their 100th anniversary. They own their own building in Yodoyabashi in the heart of Osaka and serve many business customers. Scabal is an important brand for the store and their tailored clothes.

Matsuzaki published "A Fundamental Study of Cutting" in 1934 and "The Matsuzaki System" in 1935. These two books have been reprinted and have contributed to the tailoring industry. They can be found in the library catalog of the National Diet Library. They submitted an article on how to cut to "The Gentleman and Sartorial Art Journal" in the United States which appeared seven times. This magazine was a prestigious journal at that time and now is stored at the Library of Congress in Washington.

Moreover, they published a specialized book entitled "Tailor" from 1933 until 1940 which is believed to have contributed to the development of the technology in the industry.

Scabal is proud to announce that they will organize a Scabal event in September, also offering special hangers personalized with the customer's name as a gift.

Scabal embroideries

Scabal offers many options to personalize your suit to the fullest. One of the Made By You possibilities is to add embroideries.

The earliest embroideries known are from ancient Egypt (3000 BC) but examples also survive from the Iron Age (1200 BC) and the Zhou Dynasty (1000 BC). The art of decorating fabric with needle and thread was very important in the Medieval Islam World and considered a sign of high social status.

Many craftsman embroidered with gold and silver. A famous embroidery was Opus Anglicum, fine needlework of Medieval England done for ecclesiastical or secular use, in great demand from the 12th to the 14th century and a luxury product used for diplomatic gifts.

Tablemag is a new design furniture invented by Belgian designer Antoinette Ribas. The designer finds creative solutions to make life easier: "I’m an addict. I buy a lot of beautiful magazines and I was always sad because I didn’t know how and where to file them" says Ribas. "Hanging the magazines is a natural, practical and aesthetic way of presenting them" she adds.

The design is pure and functional and is suitable for many interiors ambiences. In addition, Tablemag is hand-made at a small, traditional production facility.

New Lapis Lazuli collection

Faithful to tradition, every year Scabal creates a new cloth, which each time challenges the boundaries of technology and the material itself. Lapis lazuli, the noble blue gem of antiquity, has been incorporated in a new quality of beautiful and exclusive suiting for Spring – Summer 2012.

Over the past ten years Scabal has become renowned for its unique ability to weave the most luxurious cloth that contains microscopic particles of precious metals and gems, such as diamond, platinum and gold. Lapis lazuli has been chosen for its eye-catching visual qualities and for the properties that some believe it can endow upon the wearer.

This beautiful stone, prized for its intense blue colour, is incorporated in a luxurious Super 150’s quality suiting, weighing 280 grammes, which contains 2% cashmere. It is woven in Scabal’s own mill in West Yorkshire, England, and can be worn all year round. A unique and powerful cloth, Lapis Lazuli is available in 12 new designs.

Formed millions of years ago by magma rising from the centre of the earth and reacting with existing rock, lapis lazuli is a rare semi-precious stone that is found in only a few remote locations. It has been prized for more than 6,000 years, back to the days of the ancients Egyptians, Babylonians and Sumerians.

Its romantic name is composed from ‘lapis’, the Latin word for stone, and ‘azula’, which is from the Arabic for ‘blue’. Among the many qualities attributed to it as ‘a stone of protection’, lapis lazuli is believed to relieve stress and to instill in the wearer deep peace, harmony and inner self-knowledge. It is said to stimulate objectivity and clarity. It inspires personal confidence and strengthens relationships. As it is thought to positively affect the throat, it is said to improve one’s willingness to communicate freely and effectively.

In the Middle Ages period, the well-known colour “outremer blue” was created from lapis lazuli stone. Famous painters used this incredible deep blue pigment until 19th century.
