In 2012, Scabal will celebrate 40 years of creating exceptional fabrics for Hollywood movies that have inspired fashion, film and fine tailoring. The story began in 1972, when Scabal provided several fabrics cuts for the first episode of The Godfather, with Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. Scabal established itself in Hollywood as the supplier and adviser to dress the silver screen’s biggest stars, and Scabal’s reputation on the international scene and the location of its New York branch convinced the big studios to use its fabrics. Through the years, the brand has established a close working relationship with Hollywood and has notably provided fabrics for blockbusters such as Wall Street 1 and 2 (1987 and 2011), The Untouchables (1987), The Goodfellas (1990), Casino (1996), Titanic (1997), Men in Black (1997), The Tailor of Panama (2001), The Aviator (2004) and Casino Royale (2006). Scabal’s made-to-measure dressing gown is inspired by famous gangsters’ movies such as The Godfather, Casino and The Goodfellas, where gentlemen cultivated a glamorous lifestyle: elegant, erotic, vulgar and violent. In these movies, a man in a good suit is always respectable – obviously, it’s a caricature but nowadays it appears that clothing style is an important advantage for men. The morning robe is fully crafted by hand and no fewer than ten measurements stages are necessary before starting the three-week production process. Scabal’s master tailors work on the cut, model and applications to develop a unique outfit for the modern gentleman with a traditional style. Many personalization options are offered, such as 34 cashmere fabrics from which to choose, initials embroidery, contrasted fabric for peak and cuffs and more than 30 lining possibilities. The bespoke morning gown is originally created with 100% cashmere fabrics from the Loch Fyne collection, but can be also crafted using one of the other 5,000 fabrics offered by Scabal. Only the finest, longest and brightest cashmere fibres have been chosen to create this impressively smooth and rich cashmere quality. The predominant beige, brown and blue checks and herringbones emphasize the natural elegance of this luxury cloth. To complete the collection, a range of plain articles in attractive shades are presented at the back of the bunch.
